AKIHABARA! |
This was the
first place that I went shopping for Anime goods
during my stay in Tokyo. Overal impressions of
this place is that it's pretty dam good if your
looking for nice cheap CD's, Videos, and other
assorted stuff. This is especailly true in the
case of the Liberty chain stores. Also if you can
manage to actually hunt down where Volks is your
in for a treat. Losta models as well as LD's and
other things in here, took me a while to find
this place actually as most Volks stores are
always seem to be hidden in really strange
places. Why you ask? I have absolutely no idea,
Anyhow on with the guide.

Store
Name - LIBERTY
Hours: 10am to 10pm Daily
Rating : 9 / 10 |
IMPRESSIONS
Very nice chain of
stores Liberty. They stock things such as New and
used CD's LD's, Videos, DVD, Games as well as
alot of other things depending on which store you
visit. There are 4 of these in Akihabara, I
managed to find them all but only went into 3 of
them. Oh one more thing the LIBERTY signs are in
katakana and are green letters in a white
background just to let you know so that you don't
think your walkin into the wrong store.
STORE LOCATIONS
LIBERTY
3
was the
first of the 3 LIBERTY's that i went to and is
the smallest of the bunch, from the picture on
the left it's on the right hand side of the road
(Chuo Dori West side) near a bunch of game shops
down a flight of narrow stairs, if you come up
from that end you should have no problem finding
this place. As small as this place is it's got a
lot of videos, CD's new and used oh btw
everything here is more than likely discounted
from retail price even new things. I got myself
the Evangelion Genesis 0:0 and Genesis 0:0'
videos here for 480yen each!! Now that's a
bargain.
LIBERTY 4 is across the street from LIBERTY 3
hence just use the pic on the left hand side.
This is kinda weird since it's one store but is
split into 2 you'll know what i mean when u see
it. This place is fairly crowded especailly on
Sundays, has loads of LD's check out the front of
the store they usually have cartons and boxes
full of them that they want to get rid of usually
outside the one on the left. the one on the right
has less to offer than the left which has CD's
games, LD box sets discounted of course, bargain
I saw here was probably the new Macross 7 Box
Fire 2 LD set for only 13000yen.
LIBERTY
2, head up
east on Chuo Dori ( other words head up the
street on the pic). You'll find a intersection
with a Sega place on the right i think. take that
right and you'll see Liberty 2 head up the
escalator it's the biggest of the bunch that i
went to. It's got lots of LD"s, CD's videos
and DVD on the second floor of the building they
are mainly used ones here , head up the stairs to
the 3rd floor and you'll find New CD's, LD's
Videos, and other things like cards, posters etc.
I bought the new TWO-MIX CD/video album Vision
Formula here. Nicely discounted of course only
got it for 3675 yen. Go up another floor and
you'll find some anime stuff but not much, mainly
imported english stuff here but still take a look
u never know what you might find here.
LIBERTY
1 I'm not
going to write about since I never went in it,
only passed it while I was looking for K-Books and
Hobby Shop Kyra.
All I know is that
it's near Hobby Shop Kyra. |

and lots of room to move around in.

IMPRESSIONS
Nice little place for
modelling goods. But hard as hell to find, It's
tucked away in the inner parts of the shops in
Akihabara's east side. You have to go up in the
elevator to get to this place, on the 6th floor.
Has models which range from Mecha snap kits to
resin figures of characters, Overall not bad but
just the location is.
STORE LOCATIONS
Kinda hard to Describe
since it's so tucked away, all I can remember is
that it's near the JR Akihabara station on the
east end of Chuo Dori on the right. but I hope
this address helps . On the pic just head left
into the "maze" of shops that surrounds
that area, you can get lost in there since there
can be alot of people,

Store Name - Volks, K-Books and
Kaiyodo(Hobby Lobby Tokyo)

IMPRESSIONS
Well first
off all Volks stores have this thing for being in really really bad
locations, as in that it'll take you a half hour just to find the
dam place. It's tucked away on the 6th floor of a building near the
exit of Akihabara JR station. But once you do find this place it is
a hell of an excellent store if you want to buy models. They have
everything, ranging from plastic kits, to resin, you name it they'll
most likely have it, if they don't then they'll be more than happy
to help you try and track it down at one of there 3 other stores in
Shibuya, Shinjuku and the other I can't remember where. There prices
are good slightly below retail, anyhow good luck trying to find this
place, but once you find one and grab a bag from any of the stores,
it'll have maps for all the stores.
STORE(s) LOCATION
Like I said,
this is one hard place to find, it's on the 6th floor of one of the
buildings near the station, the building is also full of electronic
shops and I can also tell you how to get to the elevator. Walk into
the place, down the corridor a bit, there'll be shops to the left
and right of you, the elevator is on the left side some where, also
there is a game shop right next to the elevator and stairs. Also
there is the shops card stickered on the wall near the elevator so
that you'll know your at the right place. Oh and another thing when
you get to the 6th floor head down the corridor on the right to see
the shop, there will be some of those vending machines that sell
those little ball things and cards the staff will usually greet you
at the store front, oh by the way the logo of the place looks like a
VS with a slogan in english below it I can't remember the slogan
right now but I'll put it up if I do remember it. Ok but heres
another tip that i have read around the other guide sites. It's
fairly close to the JR Akihabara station and if u were to look for
the building from the other side than where i was looking then it
was really easy @__@ since theres' big signs on the window as seen
on the right picutre

(PICTURE FROM 1999 Beef Bowl Anime Shopping
Guide)
From
Top you can see the VS sign in green that's Volks (6th Floor), Go to
4th Floor and it's Kaiyodo and of course 3rd floor is K-Books cool
store. |
